Working Successfully With the International Office on Campus

Most universities and colleges have an International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSSO), that serves as a resource and guide to prospective, current, and alumni international students and scholars. If you are building relationships with students and scholars on campus, having a good relationship with the ISSSO can be a benefit to both of you. Learn from the mistakes of others on what can hinder the relationship and what the greatest needs of the ISSSO are. Gain a deeper understanding of the boundaries set and required by the ISSSO administration, and how you can honor the rules and still be a witness for Christ.

Dr. Adria Baker will teach this webinar. Dr. Baker has spent over 35 years working in international education. She recently retired from her position as the associate vice provost for international education / executive director of the Office of International Students and Scholars at Rice University. Dr. Baker had two Fulbright awards – to France (2021) and South Korea (2013) and served as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Ambassador. She served as the Texas congressional liaison for NAFSA: Association of International Educators and on the Governor’s Council for the Department of Homeland Security. She will share from her rich experience of being a Christian working at secular private and public universities, where she navigated sensitivities and tensions of working “as to the Lord” in her Christian faith, yet was required to hold Christian volunteers accountable to follow the guidelines meant to protect the students from proselytization.
